Healthy Meals for Our Kids

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
Our kids are our future. The foods they eat now make a big difference in the people they will grow up to be. Our school menus have been transformed to fit the USDA guidelines for the National School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs.
These changes have given more importance to what we were already doing to provide more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and in general healthier meals.
For example:
We serve fresh fruits
We serve vegetables of different colors and flavor both raw and cooked
We serve 1% white or flavored, fat-free milk
We have increased our usage of whole grain breads on our menu
We will keep on making changes to meet the guidelines as they change for the benefit of our children's health and nutrition. These changes will take some time to get used to, so we are working on great ways to get students excited about eating more healthy foods.
We cannot do it alone. We need your help to make this a success. We ask that you encourage your kids to try new foods at home and at school and also join them for lunch or breakfast once in a while at school to try the new menu items.
These requirements will change school meals forever. We hope to have your support in helping our kids grow up to be strong, tall, and healthy people.

Media Release for Free and Reduced-Price Meals
Community Eligibility Provision (CEP)—Base Year
The Onalaska Independent School District announced a continuation of its policy for serving meals to children served under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program for the 2024-2025 school year.
Schools qualifying to operate the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) provide breakfast and lunch to all children at no charge and eliminate the collection of meal applications for free, reduced-price, and paid student meals. This approach reduces burdens for both families and school administrators and helps ensure that students receive nutritious meals.

Civil Rights Complaint Procedures
Onalaska Independent School District provides the Child Nutrition Program benefits to all eligible individuals without discrimination on the bases of race, color, national origin, sexual origin, age, disability, sex, gender identity, religion, reprisal, and where applicable, political beliefs, marital status, familial or parental status, sexual orientation, or all or part of an individual’s income is derived from any public assistance program, or protected genetic information in employment or in any program or activity conducted or funded by the Department. If you feel in any way that your child has been discriminated against while participating in the Child Nutrition Program, including during the serving of meals to him/her, please follow these procedures in voicing your complaint:
- Please fill out the Discrimination Complaint Form at Onalaska ISD Central Office, located at 134 N FM 356 Onalaska, TX 77360.
- Take your form to the Child Nutrition Director, James Ard 936-646-1006, or your child’s principal. All written complaints will be accepted by the school district and forwarded to the Food and Nutrition Division, Texas Department of Agriculture.
- You may also make your complaint to the OISD Superintendent, Dr. Kenneth Fraga, 134 N FM 356 Onalaska, Texas, 777360.
- If you wish to file a Civil Rights program complaint of discrimination, complete the USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form, found online at http://www.ascr.usda.gov/complaint_filing_cust.html, or at any USDA office, or call (866) 632-9992 to request the form. You may also write a letter containing all of the information requested in the form. Send your completed complaint form or letter to us by mail at U.S. Department of Agriculture, Director, Office of Adjudication, 1400 Independence Avenue, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20250-9410, by fax (202) 690-7442 or email at program.intake@usda.gov. Individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or have speech disabilities may contact USDA through the Federal Relay Service at (800) 877-8339; or (800) 845-6136 (Spanish).
